Summer is very hot here in Georgia.  That means a lot more watering in the garden to keep the plants healthy and happy.  Luckily, there are many summer flowers to enjoy. This includes lantana, ice plants, knockout roses and more.  I wanted to show you some of the pretty flowers in bloom right now.

Summer Flowers

The top flowers in my garden include the heat-loving lantana which has a great variety of colors.  I have two mixed varieties and a yellow. They have small blooms and add a nice pop of color.

The roses come next. My Knockout roses are tough and bloom frequently, but the wild roses are keeping a pretty good pace too.  I like how this one Knockout rose plant has two different shades of pink flowers on it.

The red wild rose blooms more frequently than the pink, but both are doing well.  I did notice the leaves are looking strained and like bugs have hit them.  It is just that time of year.  I will watch to make sure they are doing ok, but don’t normally baby them too much.

Newest Addition

My newest addition to the garden, which I will post about soon, is the ice plant. I love the delicate flowers with pink and white colors.  The little plant is doing well in 95+ degree weather, so I am already impressed.  The balloon flowers are still blooming regularly which makes me happy.

I love seeing all my pretty summer flowers. Due to the heat, I don’t spend as much time in the garden. Early morning is better when the sun is not as intense.  I am happy to see one or two butterflies coming to my butterfly bushes.  That means the hummingbirds will be visiting me soon.  I love them!

Average Cost:

$3-7 for small plants

Remember they grow fast so you don’t need a larger size.  I always buy the smallest size I can get and add time release fertilizer when planting. Lowest price for most found at Walmart.

Where to buy:

Walmart, Home Depot, Pike or local nurseries.  You can also buy online from various sites including Amazon.

Savvy Tip:

Walmart regularly puts plants on clearance if they start getting brown.  Check the clearance area in the garden section to see if any of the flowers are there and just need a little love to revive.  This will save you money.

“Life is like a flower, you have to enjoy its beauty before summer ends.”
